A sand and gravel pump, also known as a large particle pump, gravel pump, or sand pumping equipment, is a modified version of the sand pump based on similar products from Australia. The sand and gravel pump is primarily used in dredging projects with high flow requirements and is suitable for extracting pebbles, stones, domestic garbage, coarse sand, and other large particle media. Initially used in industrial and mining enterprises, the pump’s applications have since expanded to include river channel dredging, sand pumping, and embankment projects.
The sand and gravel pump features a wide flow passage due to its unique three-blade impeller design. The pump casing and impeller are reinforced, and the flow parts are made from high-chromium alloy for enhanced durability. These characteristics ensure stable operation, a long lifespan, and high efficiency.
However, the sand and gravel pump may not be suitable for all working conditions. With fewer blades and a smaller impeller diameter compared to marine sand pumps and high-head slurry pumps, the gravel pump’s shaft power is lower. As a result, with the same power ratio, the output of the sand and gravel pump is lower than the other two pump types. Customers should keep this in mind during the selection process.
In June 2018, a customer from Côte d’Ivoire contacted Ocean Pump’s foreign trade manager with specific requirements for the sand and gravel pump. The customer wanted the pump to possess certain features.
1. The material should be a wear-resistant alloy. The customer had used a sand pumping machine from Guangdong, China for river sand pumping. Although the performance was good, the wear occurred too quickly.
2. The pump should have a wide flow passage, as there were pebbles and other large particles in the river.
3. The customer had a Perkins diesel engine rated at 550 kW and running at 1500 rpm. He provided the flywheel size, and we need to find a matching gearbox for him.
4. We should provide supra-polymer PE discharge pipes and PE floaters.
5. He requested a steel discharge extension. To separate the flow at the end of the pipe, we designed a ‘Y’-shaped extension with a valve to control the flow of water.
The customer from Côte d’Ivoire had clear requirements for his project. After professional consultation with our engineers, we selected the ZS400 large particle sand and gravel pump and the Hangzhou 600 type 3.5:1 gearbox. The customer provided us with the diesel engine and flywheel dimensions. We then designed the base and gearbox to match these specifications. Once all the data was confirmed, we signed the contract.
The customer also purchased additional products from other factories in China, which were delivered to our factory and consolidated with the sand and gravel pump in the same container for shipment. This approach helped the customer save on shipping costs. The goods were shipped in September, and our customer was very satisfied with our excellent service and professional knowledge.

During packing, the customer arranged for an inspector to supervise the container loading process. The inspector verified the quality and quantity of the goods, ensuring that everything was in accordance with the contract.
