ZJL Vertical Slurry Pump

Vertical slurry pumps, are single-stage, single-suction, cantilevered structures. The hydraulic components of the pump are connected by bearing blocks, support blocks, and connecting pipes. Liquid is discharged through the discharge pipe assembly. The pump’s impeller is a semi-open impeller with agitator blades extending from the impeller blade inlet.

Description

1. Product Overview and Technical Features

The ZJL series vertical slurry pump represents a significant technological achievement in my country’s solid-liquid two-phase fluid transportation. It is a single-stage, single-suction, vertical centrifugal pump designed specifically for handling abrasive slurries containing high concentrations of solid particles. This series of pumps utilizes internationally advanced solid-liquid two-phase flow theory and utilizes a hydraulic design based on the principle of minimum loss. The geometry of its flow components perfectly matches the flow state of the medium, significantly reducing local and along-the-line hydraulic losses caused by eddy currents and impacts. This optimized fluid dynamic design not only reduces the wear rate of flow components but also improves hydraulic efficiency (up to 69%) while effectively controlling operating noise and vibration levels.

Vertical Slurry Pump

From a structural design perspective, the ZJL series pumps offer the following significant advantages:

1) Vertical submersible structure: The pump body operates directly submerged in the liquid, eliminating the need for any shaft seals or seal water systems. This completely eliminates the common shaft seal leakage issues associated with traditional slurry pumps.

2) Modular design: The pump drive shaft or suction pipe can be configured with varying lengths, depending on the depth of the slurry tank. A variety of speeds and variations ensure the pump always operates at its optimal operating point.

3) Compact layout: The pump inlet is positioned vertically downward, while the outlet is positioned vertically upward. This design significantly reduces installation space and is particularly suitable for space-constrained environments.

Innovation in material technology is the core competitive advantage of the ZJL series pumps. Its flow-through components (including the impeller, pump body, and guard plates) are made of a highly hard, high-chromium alloy.

This material offers three outstanding properties:

1) Excellent wear resistance: With a Rockwell hardness of HRC60 or higher, it resists erosion and wear from solid particles.

2) Excellent corrosion resistance: Withstands corrosive media across a wide pH range.

3) High impact resistance: Withstands high-speed impacts from large solid particles without breaking.

2. Scope of Application

It is primarily used in environmental protection, municipal engineering, thermal power plants, gasification and coking plants, refineries, steel mills, mining, papermaking, cement plants, food processing plants, and printing and dyeing industries to pump concentrated liquids, thick oil, oil residue, turbid liquids, slurries, mortars, quicksand, flowing sludge from urban sewage ditches, as well as fluids containing mud, sand, and slag, and corrosive liquids.

3. Operating Conditions of the ZJL Series Pumps

Temperature Adaptability: Can transport media temperatures up to 110°C, meeting the needs of most industrial scenarios.

Concentration Handling Capacity: Can efficiently handle high-concentration slurries with concentrations of ≤45% for ash slurries and ≤60% for mineral slurries.

Speed Flexibility: Supports multiple speed ranges (2900/1480/980/730/590 r/min) with direct motor drive, and can also be configured with a pulley drive upon request.

4. Model Specifications

The ZJL series slurry pump offers a comprehensive model range to meet the needs of industries of varying sizes and operating conditions. This series of pumps covers a range of outlet diameters from 40mm to 150mm, with flow rates ranging from a low of 4.6m³/h to a high of 364m³/h, and a head range from 1.4m to 58.3m. This broad performance coverage enables the ZJL series to flexibly address a wide range of applications, from fine chemicals to large-scale mining.

The model numbering system reflects a scientific and standardized product management system. For example, consider the model number “100ZJL-AY34”:

  • “100” represents a 100mm pump outlet diameter.
  • “ZJ” designates a slurry pump.
  • “L” designates a vertical structure.
  • “A” designates 5 impeller blades (B designates 4, C designates 3, F designates 6, G designates 7, and H designates 8).
  • “Y” designates a designation sequence.
  • “34” designates an impeller diameter of 34cm.

This standardized naming system not only facilitates user selection but also contributes to the establishment of unified technical specifications. In actual application, the ZJL series pumps significantly outperform conventional slurry pumps, achieving a maximum efficiency of 69% (model 150ZJL-A35), a high level for pumps that transport highly concentrated, abrasive media.

It’s worth noting that the NPSH parameters for the ZJL series pumps are marked with a “/” in standard technical data. This isn’t due to missing data; rather, it’s due to the vertical submerged structure, where the pump body operates submerged in the liquid, essentially eliminating cavitation issues. This is a significant advantage of this series of pumps over horizontal pumps. In actual operation, users should select an impeller with different blade counts based on the characteristics of the solid particles:

  • Type A (5 blades): Suitable for medium-sized and medium-concentration slurries
  • Type B (4 blades): Suitable for conveying slurries containing larger particles
  • Type F/G/H (6/7/8 blades): Suitable for fine-particle and high-concentration slurries, providing more stable flow characteristics

5. Application Analysis

The ZJL series slurry pumps, with their excellent anti-abrasion performance and ability to handle high-concentration slurries, have been widely used in various industrial fields. Its main application scenarios can be categorized into the following key areas:

5.1 Mining and Metallurgy: This sector is the primary application for the ZJL series pumps, including concentrate and tailings transportation in beneficiation plants and slurry circulation in metallurgical enterprises. In these applications, the pumps must handle slurries with a weight concentration of up to 60%, containing a large number of extremely hard ore particles.

5.2 Power Industry: In thermal power plants, ZJL pumps are primarily used in hydraulic ash handling systems, conveying slurries with a concentration below 45%. Traditional slurry pumps often suffer from severe wear, but the high-chromium alloy flow components used in ZJL pumps extend their service life by 2-3 times. The extended shaft design offers particular advantages in deep-liquid-level applications such as sedimentation tanks and ash pits in ash handling systems.

5.3 Coal Processing: In coal washing plants, ZJL pumps are responsible for conveying coal slurry and heavy medium suspensions. These media contain not only highly abrasive coal particles but are often also chemically corrosive. The ZJL pump’s corrosion resistance excels in these conditions, and its sealless design eliminates failures caused by coal sludge seeping into the sealing system.

5.4 Dredging and Desilting: In operations such as river sand mining and harbor dredging, the ZJL series pump can operate directly underwater, handling complex media containing solid particles such as silt, gravel, and other solids. The submersible nature of the pump eliminates suction head limitations, resulting in a significantly higher slag suction rate than traditional pumps.

5.5 Chemical and Building Materials Industries: These pumps are used to transport slurries containing chemically corrosive substances, such as salt slurries in the salt industry, catalyst suspensions in chemical plants, and cement slurries in building materials factories. In these applications, corrosion resistance and wear resistance are equally important, and the ZJL pump’s dual protection features meet this specialized need.

When selecting a suitable pump for a specific project, the following key factors must be comprehensively considered:

Slurry characteristics: including solid particle hardness, particle size distribution, concentration, and liquid chemical properties (pH, corrosive components, etc.);

Operating parameters: flow rate requirements, head requirements, operating temperature, immersion depth, etc.;

Installation environment: space constraints, maintenance requirements, power supply configuration, etc.;

Economic factors: initial investment cost, expected service life, maintenance and replacement costs, etc.;
