A Yellow River Sand Suction Pump is a heavy-duty centrifugal pump designed for dredging and extracting sand from the Yellow River and similar environments. It features high efficiency, strong abrasion resistance, large flow capacity, and powerful suction to handle sediment-laden water. Common applications include dredging, sand mining, land reclamation, and flood control. Types include submersible, centrifugal, hydraulic, and jet suction pumps, each suited for different conditions. Built with wear-resistant materials, these pumps are essential for maintaining river flow, preventing blockages, and supporting construction projects. They are widely used in China due to the river’s high silt concentration.
Taian Ocean Pump Co., Ltd. specializes in Yellow River Sand Suction Pumps for dredging, sand mining, and land reclamation. These pumps feature high efficiency, strong suction, and wear-resistant materials, ensuring durability in sediment-heavy environments. Available types include submersible, centrifugal, hydraulic, and jet suction pumps, customized for various applications. Overhaul of Sand Suction Pump for Yellow River Dredging

OCEAN Pump’s sand suction pump is specifically designed by Yellow River Bureau water conservancy experts to meet the demanding requirements of Yellow River dredging. The marine sand suction pump is known for its wide adaptability, high efficiency, and large sand output, making it an ideal choice for challenging dredging projects.
On August 23, 2016, a customer from Henan purchased the 250PNS-35 high wear-resistant alloy sand pumping equipment for use in Yellow River dredging operations. The pump demonstrated stable performance for one and a half years, successfully dredging and transporting 1.5 million cubic meters of sand. However, after prolonged use, the customer reported experiencing water seepage from both the back cover and front cover of the pump during operation.
After an initial assessment, our workshop director determined that the back cover and front cover had undergone significant wear and tear. In some areas, the material had worn through, leading to water leakage. Given the extent of the damage, we advised the customer to bring the pump to our factory for a comprehensive inspection, repair, and accessories replacement to restore its performance.
On March 22, 2018, the customer delivered the sand pump unit to our factory for an overhaul. Our technical team conducted a detailed examination and began the repair process, which included:
Overhauling the suction pipe to ensure smooth sand and water flow.
Replacing the front cover to enhance durability and prevent further leaks.
Installing a new front guard plate to improve the pump’s wear resistance.
With these repairs and component replacements, the pump was restored to optimal working condition, ensuring its continued efficiency in Yellow River dredging operations. OCEAN Pump remains committed to providing high-quality sand pumping solutions and comprehensive after-sales support to ensure long-term reliability and performance.

1. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the suction port had a minor area of wear. Given the high cost of replacement, we chose to repair and polish the area using a pig iron electrode. This approach ensures the component remains functional and can be used for an extended period without the need for full replacement.
2. The front cover has undergone significant wear and is no longer viable for maintenance. We recommend replacing it to restore proper functionality.
3. The outer surface of the front plate is excessively thin and has developed grooves. It is advisable to replace the plate to maintain performance and avoid further issues.

Overhaul for Sand Suction Pump Casing and Impeller

During the inspection of the sand suction pump casing, cavitation was observed above the casing area. However, the pump casing itself remains relatively thick and structurally sound. Given the high maintenance cost associated with replacement, we recommend retaining the current casing and deferring its replacement until the next overhaul cycle.
Regarding the impeller, wear is minimal, and only slight cavitation was found. As the impeller continues to function effectively with no major issues, we recommend keeping it in service for now. However, if wear leads to leakage or further damage in the future, replacing the impeller would be necessary to avoid operational inefficiencies.

Overhaul for Sand Suction Pump Rear Guard Plate, Rear Cover, and Auxiliary Impeller

The rear cover has developed a large-area through-hole, significantly compromising its integrity. Additionally, the rear guard plate has thinned to a point where it no longer holds sufficient value for maintenance. Due to these conditions, both the rear cover and rear guard plate should be replaced to restore proper functionality and safety.
The auxiliary impeller was also inspected, and although no major issues were found, its condition should be reviewed during future overhauls.

Overhaul for Sand Suction Pump Shaft Assembly

Our engineering team performed thorough assessments using turning detection and axle deviation testers, confirming that the bearings are still in good working condition. There is no immediate need to replace the bearings; however, routine maintenance is recommended to ensure smooth operation.
Other components of the shaft assembly, including the bushing, water injection ring, disassembly ring, water retaining plate, and oil seals, show signs of wear and should be replaced to prevent potential failures during operation. These replacements will enhance the efficiency and longevity of the pump.
