1. What is a Gravel Sand Pump Machine？
A gravel sand pump machine is designed to handle continuously the most challenging higher abrasive slurries containing large solids. Cast as a single pump casing structure with a smooth over-current channel, the gravel sand pump machine is equipped with a hard nickel and high chromium wear-resistant alloy in its overflow part. The outlet direction of the gravel sand pump machine can be adjusted as per specific requirements. The design emphasis of the wear-resistant sand suction pump is to withstand strong abrasion conditions. The overflow of the pump body’s blade guard wheel is made of high chromium plate alloy material, with casting thickness being more than twice that of ordinary sand suction pumps. Through a complex heat treatment process, the quenching process ensures a more uniform distribution of lower bainite in the wear-resistant sand suction pump castings, resulting in high-strength wear resistance. The sand pump machine is suitable for delivering strong abrasive slurries containing larger particles in mining, explosive sludge in metal melting, dredging, and similar applications.
2. What is the Selection Background For Our Malaysian Customer?
On November 15th, 2020, a Malaysian customer contacted us seeking a sand pump machine for dredging. Having previously purchased an 8-inch wear-resistant sand suction pump and being satisfied with its service life, the customer found its output insufficient for current needs and desired a larger model for river sand pumping operations. The customer specified an output capacity of not less than 250 cubic meters per hour and a discharge distance of 600-1000 meters. Additionally, the customer requested a complete pump set, including the wear-resistant sand pump machine, gearbox, diesel engine, and discharge pipeline.
3. What is the Selection Process For Our Malaysian Customer?
Considering the sand source situation in Malaysia and the export nature of the business, the ZS type wear-resistant sand suction pump was the primary choice among all pump types due to its shorter delivery time for accessory replacements. Based on the customer’s production requirements, the flow capacity of the wear-resistant sand suction pump was determined to be not less than 1500 cubic meters. A 14-inch (350mm) inner diameter HDPE pipe was selected, ensuring a head loss calculation of not less than 40.79 meters and a flow rate of 4.32m/s. After comparing parameters, the ZS350 wear-resistant gravel sand pump machine was recommended.
With the ZS350 wear-resistant gravel pump model confirmed, the design flow rate of 1656m³/h, head of 45.4m, speed of 600rpm, efficiency of 67%, and shaft power of 305.59 kW were determined. The technical department of Ocean Pump Industry selected the Weichai X8170 1000 horsepower engine and gearbox while equipping it with a specially designed sand pumping speed control system according to concentration and import and export pressure.
The wear-resistant sand pump machines were completed, and OCEAN Pumps designed a special high-pressure water pump unit for sand suction, forming a complete sand pumping solution system. The entire system underwent commissioning on December 6, 2019, and was packaged and exported to Malaysia.
