There are problems for industrial slurry pumps with long time operation. This article listed some of them and solutions.
1．Industrial slurry pumps cannot be started
First of all, check the power supply of the industrial slurry pump. Whether the connector is firmly connected. Whether the switch contacts closely. Whether the fuse is broken. Whether the three-phase power supply is equal. In case of open circuit, poor contact, fuse fusing and phase missing, find out the problems and repair it in time. Secondly, check whether it is the mechanical fault of the industrial slurry pump itself. The common reasons are the packing is too tight or there’s debris between the impeller and the pump case, stuck and blocked the pump. Pump shaft, bearing and leakage reducing ring are rusted. Serious bending of pump shaft, etc.
Troubleshooting: loosen the packing and dredge the drainage channel. Disassemble the slurry pump body to remove impurities and rust. Remove the slurry pump shaft and correct or replace it with a new one.
2.The flow of industrial slurry pumps are insufficient
If the impeller, inlet or outlet water pipes are blocked, clean the impeller or pipeline. If the impeller is seriously worn, it should be replaced. If the packing leaks, the packing shall be compacted.
The power speed of industrial slurry pumps are not matched or the belt slips, which makes the speed low. The slurry pump head is insufficient, the pipeline is too long or there’s right angle bend. The suction head is high. The bottom valve, pipeline and impeller are partially blocked or impeller is defective. The outlet pipeline leaks seriously.
Troubleshooting: restore the rated speed, remove the belt grease, adjust the belt tightness. Reduce the installation position of the water pump, shorten the pipeline or change the curvature of the pipeline. Seal the air leakage of water pump and compress the packing. Remove the blockage and replace the impeller. Replace the leakage reducing ring to block the leakage.
3.The industrial slurry pumps have vibration and noise.
The main reasons are as followed.
1) The uneven density of medium will cause vibration when the slurry pump is just started. When the industrial slurry pump is started normally, the vibration of the pump will disappear. There is no need to deal with this situation. Just pay attention to blow the medium evenly with high-pressure wind before starting.
2) The industrial slurry pump is not installed horizontally. Check the level of pump body during installation and operation.
3) Cavitation, so that the pump impeller imbalance. The installation height should be reduced, and the flow rate should be reduced through the outlet valve to reduce the inlet resistance.
4) The feeding of the suction pipe is uneven. The feeding condition of the pump should be improved to enhance the uniformity and stability of the material.
5) Large clearance of pump bearing. Excessive bearing clearance will lead to large vibration of the pump. In daily operation of the equipment, attention should be paid to observe the condition of the pump at any time. If the pump shaft and motor shaft are not concentric or the bearing is damaged, it should be handled in time.
4.Industrial slurry pumps do not absorb water
There is air in the pump body or in the inlet pipe, or the bottom valve is not closed tightly, the filling water is not enough, the vacuum pump packing is seriously leaking, and the gate valve or flap valve is not closed tightly.
Troubleshooting: fill the industrial slurry pump with water, and then start it. At the same time, check whether the check valve is tight and whether there is air leakage in the pipeline and joint. In case of air leakage, apply lubricating oil or blending paint on the joint after disassembly and tighten the screw. Check the oil seal ring of the water pump shaft. If it is worn seriously, replace it with a new one. There is water or air leakage in the pipeline, which may be due to the nut not tightening during installation. If the leakage is not serious, cement can be applied at the place of air leakage or water leakage, or cement slurry mixed with asphalt oil can be applied. Temporary repairs can be done with wet mud or soft soap. If there is water leakage at the joint, the nut can be tightened with a wrench. If there is serious water leakage, the nut must be disassembled again and the cracked pipe must be replaced.
5.Leakage at packing of the industrial slurry pump
If the axis is different from the feeding box, the main reason is the large machining error and incorrect installation. Check whether the installation is correct after installation. If the seal water ring is seriously worn, replace it with a new one. If the sealing water pipe is blocked, the sealing water can’t enter the packing, resulting in quick wear of the packing and material leakage. Dredge the blocked water pipe and keep the sealing water clean.
6.Heating of the industrial slurry pumps
Fault: Bearing damage. The clearance of industrial slurry pump rolling bearing or bracket cover is too small. The slurry pump shaft is bent or the two shafts are not concentric. The tape is too tight. Lack of oil or poor oil quality. The balance hole on the impeller is blocked and the impeller loses balance, which increases the thrust to one side.
Troubleshooting: Replace the bearing. Remove the back cover and install a gasket between the bracket and the bearing seat. Investigate the slurry pump shaft or adjust the concentricity of the two shafts. Adjust the belt tightness properly. Add clean grease, which accounts for about 60% of the gap in the bearing. Remove the blockage in the balance hole.
7.Overheating of industrial slurry pump motor
The first reason is the power supply: If the voltage changes beyond + 10% to – 5% of the rated value, the motor will overheat. The three-phase voltage of the power supply is asymmetric, and the phase to phase unbalance of the three-phase voltage of the power supply exceeds 5%, which will lead to overheating of the winding. In case of missing phase operation, motor missing phase protection device shall be installed.
The second reason is that the power is not matched with the slurry pump, the motor overload operation for a long time, so that the motor temperature is too high. If the motor is started too frequently and rated as short-time or intermittent working system. The starting times should be limited, the thermal protection should be selected correctly, and the motor should be used according to the rated value.
The third reason is the working environment: Motor winding damp, or dust, oil and other adhesion on the winding, resulting in lower insulation. The insulation resistance of the motor shall be measured and cleaned and dried. The ambient temperature is too high. When the ambient temperature exceeds 35 ℃, the temperature of the motor will be too high due to the high temperature of the inlet air, so we should try to improve its working environment. Such as sunshade. Note: in case of failure due to electrical reasons, electricians with professional qualification certificate should be allowed to repair.
8.Bearing heating
The main reasons are as follows: 1) Cold water is not turned on or the cooling water tank is blocked, the cooling water function should be turned on or the cooling water channel should be dredged. 2) The equipment is not well lubricated. Adjust the amount of lubricating oil according to the instructions. 3) The lubricating oil is not clean and there are impurities in the oil. Clean the bearing and change the lubricating oil. 4) The thrust bearing is not in the right direction. Adjust the thrust bearing direction according to the inlet pressure. 5) The air outlet of the bearing is blocked, so that the hot gas in the bearing box can’t be discharged, and the temperature of the equipment increases. The air outlet shall be cleaned. It is very important to maintain the bearing of industrial slurry pump.
